Jerome Albert Skretta was the son of Wenceslaus and Tina (Ballak) Skretta. He was born September 30, 1914 near Protivin, Iowa and attended school in the area. On June 25, 1940 Jerome was united in marriage to Alice Kuhn at Ft. Atkinson, Iowa. Five sons were born to this marriage. In the Spring of 1943, Jerome and Alice moved to a farm west of West Union, Iowa and in the Spring of 1946 they moved to a farm on the east side of West Union. Besides farming, Jerome also had his own trucking business, owned and operated an antique shop in West Union after moving to town in 1965 and would remain in this business until 1992. He sold farm toys from 1977 to present while helping with the Skretta Auction Service. He was a longtime member of the Holy Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Jerome loved to play cards and collect and sell farm toys and truck banks.

Jerome Albert Skretta passed away on April 12, 2005 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 6 months, and 12 days. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice on May 9, 1988; his parents and two brothers, Ed and August Skretta.

He is survived by his sons: Fabian (Patricia) Skretta of Omaha, Nebraska, Damian (Judy)Skretta of Fairfax, Virginia, Brian (Linda) Skretta of Silver Springs, Nevada, Lucian (Ann)Skretta of Jefferson, Wisconsin, and Julian Skretta of West Union, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren and six grandchildren.

Services were held at the Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union with Rev. Dale Rausch as the celebrant. Sue McDonough was the organist. Interment as at the St. John's Cemetery in Ft. Atkinson, Iowa and casket bearers were Stephen Kuhn, Chris Kuhn, Thomas Kuhn, Alois Kuhn, Mark Skretta, Robert Kuhn, and Donald Skretta.
