Services were conducted Monday, June 29, 1970 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Paul Lutheran Church for Curtis A. Hellum with the Rev. Norman Ullestad officiating.
Curtis Hellum, son of Kenneth Hellum and Viola Peck Hellum, was born February 3, 1946 and died at Veterans Memorial hospital in Waukon Friday, June 26, 1970 from injuries sustained that day in a one car accident.
Mr. Hellum was baptized in the Ossian Lutheran Church, was confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, attended elementary school in Luana and graduated from Postville high school in 1963.
He served four years in the Air Force, including a year in Vietnam, receiving an honorable discharge. He worked in Wilson's Packing Plant in Cedar Rapids a year and the past year had rented the farm from his parents. He was attending the Area I Vo-Technical School at Waukon. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the American Legion.
He is survived by his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Keith (Darlene) Johnson, Mrs. Curtis (Dorothy) Gilson and Mrs. Richard (Jean Ann) Van Wey, all of Elgin, and his grandmother, Mrs. John (Clara Peterson) Hellum of Elgin.
Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
