ANOTHER PIONEER GONE.

Last Friday morning, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F.H. Ward, this city, Henry Wonnenberg, one of the pioneers of West Union and Fayette county passed to his reward, after a residence of nearly fifty years in the town of his adoption. Henry Wonnenberg came to West Union in September, 1853, where he began work at his business as a tailor, which business he continued uninterruptedly until the day of his death. West Union has never had a better citizen than Henry Wonnenberg. Hard-working and diligent in business, as honest as the day is long, he constantly found enough to do to attend to his own affairs. Left a widower on Dec. 23, 1870, with four small children on his hands, he raised each and every one of them to be an honor to the communities in which they live. These children were all present at the funeral. They are: Otto C., of Jamestown, N.D.; Mrs. F.H. Ward, Mrs. Will A. Magner and T.J., the three latter all of this city.

Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter on Sunday afternoon at three, Rev. M.S. Rice officiating, and the remains were laid at rest beside those of his wife in the city over on the hill.

Deceased was born in Elbing, West Prussia, Germany, on January 19, 1823, and was the son of John and Christina Wonnenberg. He was educated in his native country where he also learned his trade. During the early years of his manhood he emigrated to America, coining here in 1852. He remained in Clinton county for little more than a year, thence coming to West Union. He was identified with the business interests of West Union for nearly fifty years, and in all that time he was honest, upright, industrious and in all that was good a guide for his fellow man.

Peace to his ashes.
