Ellis (Not related)A family directed Celebration of Life service for William Dale Conklin of West Union, Iowa was held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Alpha, Iowa. Dale died on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union following an extended illness. He was cremated.
Dale was born March 27, 1921 in Hawkeye, Iowa to Will and Della (Farr) Conklin. He married Virginia Belle Brandenburg on November 7, 1942 in Waukegan, Illinois. They were the parents of four daughters. Mr. Conklin earned a bachelor's degree from Upper Iowa University and served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Herndon during World War II. He had been a member of the Alpha Methodist Church and farmed for 44 years in the Alpha area. His hobbies included sports, fishing, camping, dancing, and walking.
William Dale Conklin was survived by his wife; three daughters Sue (Lyle) Hampton of Prospect Heights, Illinois, Patricia (Kent) Schuchmann of West Union, and Jill (Scott) Conlon of Sheffield, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda (Marvin) Shippy; a grandson John Hampton; and three sisters: Helen (Harold) Moser, Vernice Marshall, and Edith (Ralph) Mann.
