Samuel Boyce was born in Madrid, N.Y., August 3, 1834, and died at his home in West Union, March 2, 1904, in his seventieth year. He was united in marriage to Mary A. Bixby, March 4, 1862. He served four years in the Civil War, having enlisted in the 2d Wisconsin Cavalry. At the end of the war he removed with his wife to Iowa, where he has since lived. Five children are left to mourn his loss, his wife, one son and a daughter having preceded him to their last resting place. He leaves, besides his children, a large number of sorrowing relatives, friends and comrades. He was beloved by all who knew him; a loving husband and father, a true comrade and a kind friend. The funeral was held from the W. M. church on Friday at 2 p. M., Rev. Cameron officiating, and the remains were taken to Fayette for burial, just forty-two years from his wedding day.
