PEARL ELLEN SCHABACKER

Pearl Ellen Schabacker was born October 25, 1925 at Belmond, Iowa the daughter of Steve and Lydia Wolter Dorenkamp. In 1935 she moved to Manchester where she attended school and graduated from High School with the class of 1944.

Pearl was united in marriage to Norman John Schabacker on September 21, 1944 at the First Lutheran Church in Manchester, Iowa. While Norman was serving his country during WWII, Pearl worked at the Farmer's and Merchants Bank. Four children were born to this union: Randall, Rodney, Marcia, and Nancy. The family lived in the Buchanan County area and for 15 years Pearl worked for Operation Threshold in Independence. They retired and lived in Winthrop.

Pearl was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Oelwein for many years.

At the age of 87 Pearl entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at her home in Winthrop.

Her family includes her husband of 68 years, Norman of Winthrop; her son Rodney (Cathy) Schabacker of Winthrop; two daughters: Marcia (Gabe) Sciulli of Northfield, OH and Nancy (Gary) Eby of Kirkland, WA; daughter-in-law Mary Schabacker of Ankeny; eight grandchildren: Hollie (Chris) Hare, Susan Schabacker, Robert Wachala, Sara Wachala, Kristina Eby, Travis (Ann) Eby, Kimberly (Travis) Burchell, and Matthew Schabacker; eight great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Randall; one granddaughter Kaitlyn; two sisters: Myrtle Boss and Mildred Steenblock; and one brother Leonard Dorenkamp.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 16, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein with Pastor Leo Combs-Lay officiating. Organist will be Dorothy Wolfgram. Vocalists will be Gary and Velda Steenblock. Casketbearers will be: Dick Retz, Norman Boss, Gary Steenblock, Michael Broome, Matthew Schabacker, and Gene Dudley. Honorary bearers will be: Francis Halsne, Terry Schabacker, Tom Schabacker, and Craig Dorenkamp. Interment will be in Floral Hills Cemetery at Hazleton.
