Contributor: Connie Ellis (not related)Floyd E. Frieden, age 68, of Elgin, Iowa passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday, November 7, 2016. Funeral services were held on November 11, 2016 at the Arlington Community Center in Arlington, Iowa with the Apostolic Church ministers as the officiants. Interment was in the Apostolic Cemetery in rural Elgin, Iowa.
Floyd Edwin Frieden was the son of Edwin and Joy (Fordyce) Frieden. He was born June 27, 1948 in Conrad, Iowa. He was united in marriage with Janet Fisher on August 5, 1973 in Eureka, Illinois. Drafted into the U.S.Army, Floyd served during the Vietnam War as a medic. After returning home from Vietnam, he worked for J.P. Fitzgerald Surge until 1976, when he and his wife purchased Tillotson Hardware which became F & F Hardware Store. They enjoyed serving the Elgin community for over thirty years. After his retirement, Floyd enjoyed helping his family and others in the community with various projects. He dearly enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Floyd was baptized in 1966 and was a member of the Apostolic Christian Faith. He served as a minister from 1992 until his ALS disease progressed to where he was no longer able.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Joy Frieden and a brother, Larry Frieden.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Jan, four sons, a daughter, and many precious grandchildren: Bruce (Tracy) Frieden, Mara and Dane from Decorah, Iowa; Bob (Julie) Frieden, Kyella, Trey, Broden, and Garrett; Brian (Susie) Frieden, Trent and Adyson; Beth (Mike) Starkweather, Anden, Brielle, and Carver; and Ben (Traci) Frieden, Jacob and Mylie, all of Elgin, Iowa. Other survivors include a special nephew, Hans Frieden of Wisconsin; two sisters, Gloria (Bill) Wuthrich of Kirksville, Missouri and Marsha Corbin of Independence, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews in addition to other relatives and friends.
Honorary Casket Bearer was Hans Frieden and casket bearers were Bruce, Bob, Brian, and Ben Frieden, Mike Starkweather, and Eric Pryor.
