COLUMN 3RITES HELD FOR ST. LUCUS MAN
Funeral services, for Carl J. Bodensteiner, 72, who died Friday evening in Palmer Memorial hospital following a heart attack last Monday, were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday from St. Luke's Catholic church at St. Lucas. Msgr. Francis Schuh officiated at the requiem high mass. Cross bearers were three grandsons, Gary Bodensteiner; David Bodensteiner and Kenny Mihm. Interment was in the parish cemetery with six grandsons as casket bearers, Ronald Bodensteiner, Duane Bodensteiner, Mark Bodensteiner; Garvin Nienhaus, Larry Holthaus and Jimmy Holthaus. Larkin Funeral service New Hampton, was in charge of arrangements.
Carl Bodensteiner, son of Henry and Helena Kuennen Bodensteiner, was born June 7, 1889, at St. Lucas, and spent his entire life in the St Lucas area. He received his education in St Lucas schools.
On June 25, 1912, he was married to Johanna Rausch, Fort Atkinson. Mr. Bodensteiner was active in all civic and community affairs. He was a member of St. Luke's church, the Rosary society and sang with the church choir for over 30 years.
Surviving are his wife and nine children, Albert, Irvin, Mrs. Linus (Frieda) Mihm, and Leo, all of St. Lucas; Mrs. Florian (Helen) Nienhaus, Festina; Ray, Waucoma; Mrs. Nilus (Irene) Holthaus, Decorah; Richard, Osage, and Mrs. John (Irma) Schuler, Austin, Texas; five brothers, Ben, Frank, John and Clem, all of St. Lucas, and Luke, Des Moines, also a sister, Mrs. John (Caroline) Bruess, St. Lucas, and 62 grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Alma) Koch, and two brothers, Henry and Ed.
