Rites Held For Waucoma Woman

WAUCOMA—Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Cochran, who died in New Hampton hospital June 5 after a lingering illness, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Federated church, with Rev Glen McMichael, Waverly, former pastor, officiating. Interment was in Waucoma cemetery.

Mrs. Cochran was born a few miles north of Waucoma, the daughter of John and Julia Lawrence. At an early age she went to live with foster parents, an uncle and aunt, Joseph and Harriet Holmes. She was a graduate of Breckenridge Institute, Decorah, and also attended Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls. She was a successful teacher. She moved to Waucoma with her foster parents March 1, 1900. On Sept 4, 1904, she united in marriage with Charles Cochran. He died in February of 1943. A daughter, Harriet, was born to them. Mrs. Cochran was a member for over 50 years of the Waucoma congregation and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Reading circle. Surviving are her daughter. Mrs. James Koehler; two grandchildren, Pamela and Thomas Koehler; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Thompson, Bode; Mrs. Frank Krumm, Mason City; seven nieces and nephews. Her parents, foster parents, three brothers, Alexander, Joseph and Charles Lawrence, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Free, preceded her in death.
