William Merritt Adams, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 19, at St- Joseph's Community Hospital, New Hampton Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug 21, at the Federated church, Waucoma. Rev Roger D. Wolff officiated. Reed's funeral home was in charge. Burial in the Waucoma cemetery. Six grandsons served as pallbearers, Sam Adams, Bill Adams, Charles Brannon, Joseph Brannon, Robert Adams and
Richard Adams.

William Merrit Adams was born July 8, 1893, on the farm east of Waucoma where he lived his entire life. He was the son of M. S Adams and Janette Stone Adams. He graduated from Waucoma High School in 1908. He attended Oliver School of Commerce in New Hampton and graduated from U.I.C., Fayette, with a B.A. Degree in 1914. Mr. Adams served as'assistant cashier of the Waucoma bank until he started farming in 1918.

He married Mauder J. Baskerville at Earlville Sept. 12, 1916. She and two sons and a daughter survive, Ralph Adams, Waucoma; John (Jack) Adams, Waucoma, and Roberta, Mrs. Leonard Brannon, Waucoma. There are 22 grandchildren and two-great grandchildren, also a brother, John Adams, Waucoma. A sister, Mrs. John Berns, West Union, and his parents preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Methodist church. Mr. Adams was a long time member of the Board of Education for both Waucoma School and Turkey Valley Community school. He was a member of the board of directors, of the Waucoma Creamery, Eden Township clerk; for 40 years, a member of the Farm Bureau in Eden Township from the time it was organized and was on the first committee to adjust corn acreage and hog allotment which was formed in President Franklin Roosevelt's administration. He served on this committee for many years.
