Maynard Otto Klemp, 1934-2010

Maynard Otto Klemp, the son of Otto and Lydia (Branser) Klemp, was born May 6, 1934 in Readlyn, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. He served with the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1957, in Alaska. Maynard was united in marriage with Mardell Bock on January 1, 1956 in Tripoli. They later divorced. He was then united in marriage with Charlotte Latham on June 30, 1975 in Wisconsin. Maynard worked for Grain Systems in Sumner for thirty four years. He also was a truck driver for Toenges Farms.

Maynard's death occurred Sunday, November 28, 2010 at his home in rural Sumner, after a long illness. He was seventy-six years old. Maynard was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. He enjoyed farming, truck driving, and gardening.

Maynard is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of Sumner; six children, Vicki (Doug) Krivack of Lenexa, Kansas; Rick (Tracy) Klemp of Heartland, Wisconsin; Cindy Klemp of Fredericksburg; Mark (Teresa) Klemp of Sumner; Jeff Klemp of Fredericksburg; and Mary (Bob) Weightman of Ft. Myers, Florida; six stepchildren, Ted (Judy) Schott of Fredericksburg; Robert Schott of New Hampton; Terry Schott, Sr. of Fredericksburg; Jeff (Sheryl) Schott of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Deanna Jarchow of Sumner; and Gary Schott of Maynard, Iowa; twenty-one grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.

Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Gloria Klemp and Jolene Sundvold, and one brother, Loren Klemp.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2010, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Chapel in Sumner with Rev. Burt Williams officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will be at the Alpha Cemetery in Alpha. Military rites will be conducted by the Thomas E. Woods American Legion Post #223 in Sumner.
