Donald Hardy Shaw, age 85, of Columbia, Maryland and longtime resident of Davenport, Iowa died April 21, 2008 from complications of injuries received in Aspen, Colorado when hit by snow sliding from a building roof. A memorial service will be scheduled in Davenport, Iowa at a later date. Interment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, Rock Island, Illinois.

Donald was born in Oelwein, Iowa on June 1, 1922 to John Hardy and Minnie (Brown) Shaw. He graduated from the Oelwein High School. He was a veteran of World War II and a graduate of Harvard University, in addition to the Iowa Law School in Iowa City, Iowa. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Orr on August 16, 1946. He was employed for many years as an executive with the Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company in Davenport, Iowa. He was an active Democrat who served as a local chairman of John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign in 1960.

He is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth; loving father of Elizabeth "Betsy" A. (Alexander Shaw) Shaw of Bethesda, Maryland, Andrew H. Shaw of Kenilworth, Illinois, and Anthony O. (Joann) Shaw of Williston, Vermont; dearest grandfather of Sarah, Caroline, Allison, Kathryn, Nathan, Emily, and Meredith Shaw; and devoted brother of Edith Gerstenberger of Oelwein, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Hardy and Minnie (Brown) Shaw; a brother Kermit Shaw; sisters Florence Stewart and Mildred Herron; and a daughter-in-law, Julie Reynolds Shaw.
