OELWEIN - Elizabeth "Beth" Kunkle, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hazleton, with Pastor Brian Cieslukowski officiating. Burial will be in Fontana Cemetery, rural Hazleton.

Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, and after 1 p.m. Monday at the church.

Beth was born Oct. 6, 1920, at Oelwein, the daughter of Albert and Catherine (Beile) Recher. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1937 and from Drake University in Des Moines. Beth taught high school at Winthrop and later worked as a bookkeeper at Schuchmann's Pharmacy. She married Raymond Kunkle on Aug. 13, 1950, in Oelwein. Beth was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hazleton where she was an elder, past bookkeeper and historian, the American Legion Auxiliary, AAUW and Business and Professional Women.

Survivors include three daughters, Anne (Paul) Nixon of Burlington, Vt., Martha Kunkle of Carlisle and Mary (Ken) Scribner of Ocala, Fla.; three granddaughters, Susannah Hopkins, Lizzie Nixon and Sydney Scribner; a sister, Mary Schuchmann of Oelwein; and a brother, Albert Recher of Palm Desert, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, Sept. 17, 1970.

A memorial fund has been established.
