Elizabeth Havenstrite was born in Luzerne county, Pennsylvania, August 17, 1822 and died at her home in Dover township, Fayette county, Iowa, May 04, 1903, aged 81 years, 9 months and 17 days.

On April 14, 1837, Elizabeth was married to Charles Learn of Pennsylvania. After living there 19 years they emigrated to Iowa and settled in Fayette County.

They were the happy parents of 9 children, 7 girls and 2 boys. Two children preceded the mother to the spirit land, a boy and girl. The boy was a soldier and died in the Civil War. Only one brother of the original family is left to mourn the loss of a sister. The aged companion still survives. Also seven children, 27 grandchildren, 23 greatgrandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Sister Learn was a friend of everybody. Hers was a noble christian character. She embraced the religion of Jesus Christ in her youth and was always found at her post of duty.

Sister Learn joined the Evangelical church in Father Rowland's home in 1862. Her integrity and zeal for the Lord for forty years was commendable.

Funeral services were held at the Mt. Pleasant Church May 7th and the body laid away til time shall be no more.
