John H. Carter Dead.

After long illness J. H. Carter died Sunday at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. J. G. Carter, at the age of 73 years. Shortly prior to his death, realizing that the end was near, he requested E. B. Shaw, custodian of his will, to open that document and see that its behests were complied with. Mr. Shaw did so, learning that the deceased, after disposing of his effects, his estate amounting to about $1500, desired that his funeral should be inexpensive and unostentatious, that no words or prayer be said over his body, and that no minister be present. His wishes were carried out to the letter, and all that was mortal of John H. Carter was laid to rest Monday afternoon. As may readily be inferred from this, Mr. Carter was quite eccentric, yet a man of large mental capacity. He had never married, and became rather morose and crabbed in his later life. He was an infidel andduring insisted his last illness he repeatedly that the nearness of death brought no terrors nor any weakening in his belief. His funeral was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Kimball, of Cresco, and George G. Carter, of Chicago, who were summoned by telegraph.—{West Union Gazette.
