Funeral services for Clifford Barness, 26, were conducted Friday afternoon from Bethany Lutheran church by Rev. Wallace Jackson. Burial was in the nearby cemetery with Burnham-Wood Funeral home in charge. Pallbearers were Arnold Kleppe, Richard Kleppe, Marvin Strand, Kenneth Reinertson, Wayne Barness and Alvin Thompson.
Clifford Orville Barness, son of John and Gladys Barness, was born Dec. 4, 1938, in Winnesheik county. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on Jan. 1, 1939, by Rev. G.O. Mona.
At the age of five he entered the State Institution at Woodard, where he was a resident until the time of his death on Feb. 23.
Surviving are his parents, two brothers and three sisters, Lloyd, West Union; Marvel, who is stationed at Fort Sill, Okla.; Sharon, Joyce and Janet at home; his grandparents, Mr.and Mrs. Ben Barness, West Union; a niece and a nephew, aunts and uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother Gordon, who was accidentally killed in July of 1956.
