HABEGER RITES HELD IN ELGIN

Funeral Services were held Friday, March 22, for Abe Habeger, 72, who died suddenly March 18. Rev. Norman Miller officiated at the 11 a.m. services in First Baptist church, Elgin. Muehlethaler Funeral Home,Elgin was in charge of the arrangements.

Burial was in God's Acres cemetery, near Clermont. Casketbearers were Larry Krueger,Allen Kruger, Gary Gilson, LaVerne Krueger, Hollis Habeger and Dean Hilgerson.

Abe Habeger, son of Abraham and Eliza Imhof Habeger, was born April 27, 1912, southeast of Elgin. He attended the Cherry Valley grade school and worked as a farm laborer until his marriage to Lillian Krueger on Feb. 26, 1937.

Abe was a 4-H leader for five years and served on the Fayette County Extension Council for several years. He raised registered shorthorn cattle on his farm, Hycrest Ranch, near Elgin.

He was baptized Jun 12, 1932, and joined the First Baptist church at Elgin. He was an active member and held numerous offices, such as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, choir member, church board member and youth counselor. Highlight of his religion was the Interdenominational Bible Study which was led by Abe and his wife.

He is survived by his wife Lillian two sons, Anthony, Dubuque and Terry, Markesan, WI; a daughter Vicky (Mrs. Melvin) Moore, South Windsor, CT; eight grandchildren: Cindy, Travis, Heidi, Hans and Holly Habeger, Shawn, Chad and Holly Moore; a brother Eli Habeger, Evansville, WI; a sister, Mrs. Sally Boleyn, Cottonwood, AZ; several nieces and nephews.
