OBITUARY
CONRAD SCHMITT DIES AT AGE 93

ST. LUCAS -- Services for Conrad Schmitt, 93, West Union, were held Monday, March 16, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Luke's Catholic Church with Rev. Raphael Ludwig officiating. Interment was in St. Luke's Cemetery. Burnham- Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangement.

Conrad died Wednesday, March 11, 1998 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, of an apparent heart attack.

Conrad Frank Schmitt, son of John and Elizabeth (Boeding) Schmitt, was born Feb. 4, 1905 at St Lucas. He attended St. Luke's School.

On May 18, 1928 he was united in marriage to Clara Kuennen at St. Lucas To this union were born five children.

Conrad was a feed and fertilizer dealer and farmed for many years on the family farm south of St. Lucas. In 1977 they moved to West Union and the last two years he was a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in West Union.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ernest; seven sisters and one half-brother.

Conrad is survived by his wife, Clara; three sons: John, Ossian: Luke and Sam, Waucoma; a daughter, Lorraine Freidly, Denver, Colo., 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Nieland, Guttenberg and Margaret Blong, Dubuque; and nieces and nephews.
