JOHNSON SERVICE HELD AT OSSIANServices for Mabel Evelyn Johnson, 81, were held Friday, Feb. 27, at First Lutheran Church, Ossian. Rev. Daniel Wee officiated with interment in First Lutheran Cemetery. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn died Feb. 23, 1998 at the Grandview Nursing Home.
Mabel Evelyn (Kleppe) Johnson, daughter of Ole K. and Tressie (Swennes) Kleppe, was born Aug. 28, 1916 in Ossian. She was baptized Sept. 17, 1916 and confirmed Sept. 28, 1930 both at First Lutheran. She attended Dover #8 country school.
On March 11, 1937 Evelyn was united in marriage to Ervin Johnson at First Lutheran Church parsonage. To this union was born daughter. They farmed for over 30 years, purchasing the Kleppe home farm after three years. They moved to West Union in 1972. Evelyn had worked for Heying Firms, Loftus Cafe, and the Town House Cafe. She and Ervin were custodians at Holy Name Catholic Church for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin on Feb. 4, 1998; her parents; two brothers, Marvin and Otto Kleppe; four sisters, Gladys Barness, Olga, Agnes and Thelma Kleppe in infancy; Corniel and Peter Kleppe and two half-sisters, Enger Torkelson and Martha Kleppe.
Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Delores Rober, Dorchester; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Kleppe, Strawberry Point, and several nieces and nephews.
