MRS. HASSIS DEAD.

The following is taken from the Mason City Globe Gazette. "Mrs. Hassis; wife of John F. Hassis, a traveling man of the city passed away at the hospital Monday afternoon at four o'clock after an illness lasting over six weeks. She has been ailing for nearly a year when it was deemed necessary to remove her to the hospital and an operation undertaken for her relief. This was done but the operation proved of no avail and from that time she steadily lost strength till the end came. The immediate cause was congestion of the lungs where an abscess had formed. The family formerly lived in Nora Springs but moved to Mason City, Mr. Hassis taking charge of the hardware store now occupied by Raymond & Bailey when it was owned by Ira Knapp. The neighbors and friends of Mrs. Hassis speak very highly of her as a devoted mother, a refined lady, lovable and generous. She was a member of the Congregational church and while in health was active in its behalf. She leaves besides her husband, a son Theodore, about nine years of age. A short funeral service will be held at the home 432 E. Seventh street Wednesday morning at 8:30 o'clock, Rev. Rogers, officiating, and the body will then be sent to Elgin, Iowa, to be interred at the side of her mother. The community extends heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved son and husband.

Louisa M. Schneider was born April 20, 1868 at Elgin, Iowa, she died at Mason City, Sept. l9th at 4:35 p. m. She was married at Charles City to John F. Hassis May 26, 1891, and to them was born one son, Theodore Leonard, March 1895. Besides her sorrowing husband and son who survive her are her father, Casper Schneider and sister Mrs. Carrie Lehman of Twisp, Wash., Mrs. Peter Nelson of Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. Paul Stephen of Prairie du Chien, Wis. Mrs. Henry Nelson of Pomona, Cal., Mrs. Rosa Brown of Ontario. Cal., all sisters and a brother Fred Schneider of Milbank, S. D. Mrs. Peter Nelson and Mrs. Stephen were with her in the last hour of sickness as was also Mrs. Louisa M. Hassis, - mother of the husband of the deceased.

The interment "will be at Elgin, Iowa, the former home of the deceased and the remains will be placed alongside those of her mother and brother who have preceded her to the City of the Dead."

The remains arrived in this city Wednesday afternoon of last week and were taken to the cemetery, where after short and appropriate services they were consigned to mother earth by the side of her mother who had passed away some years before. The honorary pallbearers were. Mesdames Thomas Knudtson, Gus A. Stoehr, Therlo Doan, L. D. Mattoon, C. W. Nicklaus, and C. S. Holstenson, who, during the lady's girlhood had been schoolmates and friends of the deceased.

Just as the funeral cortege was leaving Mason City the following letter was handed. Mr. Hassis, which shows the high esteem, with which the company by whom he is employed, held his wife and himself:

Dubuque, Ia.
Mr. John Hassis.
Dear Sir,
It is with deep regret and sorrow I learn from your favor of yesterday that Mrs. Hassis succumbed to the inevitable at 4:34 p. m., Sept. 19th after a hard struggle against the destroyer of life, thereby causing the hardest blow that can befall a man who was as devoted to his faithful wife, as I know you to have been, and time only can assuage the deep grief inflicted upon you by the loss of your loving and devoted life partner and I know, your friends one and all hope you will bear up under this, the most sincere trial of your whole life.

Respectfully, C. Schreiber.
