OBITUARY OF ALLISHA L. BALDWIN.

Allisha Louisa Baldwin, daughter of Christian A. and Esther Cooley Baldwin, was born near Elgin, April 12, 1873. When five years old the family moved to a farm near Wadena where they lived three years and she attended a country school. Returning to Elgin, she entered the public school and finished the school course, later attending Iowa State Teachers’ College and Upper Iowa University at Fayette.

For 35 years she taught in the public schools of northeastern Iowa. Her last 5 years of teaching were at Arnolds Park in northwest Iowa, and two years in the Iowa school for the Blind.

At the age of twenty she was converted and joined the Methodist church at Elgin. Wherever her teaching took her she was always active in church work. Later in life circumstances prevented her doing active church work or even attending church services.

When her father died in 1921, and the home was broken up she went to live with a sister at Fayette for twenty-six years. When she discontinued teaching her time was spent in the homes of three invalid sisters for whom she helped care.

As a result of a broken hip she came to her only sister in December, 1947, who helped care for her until she entered Bethany Home in Dubuque, June 4, 1948.

She is survived by one sister, three brothers-in-law, three nephews, two nieces, great nieces and nephews, an aunt, and numerous friends.

Miss Baldwin passed away quietly on Saturday morning, April 29, after a week’s illness.

Funeral services were conducted at Bethany Home Tuesday morning and burial made in the Elgin Cemetery Tuesday afternoon, May 2.
