OBITUARY OF MRS. MARY MOSER.

Mary Abbey, daughter of John and Elizabeth Wittmer Abbey, was born in Elgin, on Sept. 16, 1860, adjoining the lot where later her father built the house which sheltered her during her childhood days, and which but for a short time following marriage, has since been her home until the time of her death, which occurred at the Decorah hospital early Thursday morning, Sept. 15, 1938, one day before her 78th. She was one of a family of nine children; six brothers and one sister have preceded her in death. The four sisters surviving are Mrs. Emma Reusser of Elgin, Mrs. Frank Wells and Bertha Abbey of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Rose Garner of Hollywood, Calif.

On May 21, 1880, she was united in marriage to Rudolph W. Moser, at Elkader. At the time of their marriage the husband was busily engaged in a wagonmaker’s shop. This he managed during his life time in cooperation with their son Philip. The husband died on Jan 14, 1919. Since then the business was continued by Philip who lived with his mother in the old Abbey homestead until her death. To Mr. and Mrs. Moser were born four children, two daughters who died in infancy, and the two sons, Pierce of Ellsworth, Kansas, and Philip, of Elgin.

She was a woman of many sterling qualities, among which were an enduring patience, great courage and a clear sense of right and justice. She loved her home and the common duties necessary to keep it in order. Any neighbor who would have occasion to call at her door was always cordially welcomed. She will be greatly missed not only by her sons and sisters, but by grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other near relatives.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Elgin, on Sunday afternoon at two o’clock. The pastor, Rev. J.J. Snyder, conducted the services. The hymns were sung by the church quartet composed of Edward Klingman, Ruth Mosby, C.B. Schori and Gordon Mosby and William Weibel played the accompaniment. The casket bearers were, Mel Kohler, N.W. Evans, A.M. Weibel, Samuel Mosby, Fred Kohler and Max Thoma. Burial was made in the Elgin cemetery.
