OBITUARIES.
GLADYCE O. ASH.

Services for Gladyce O. Ash, 80, were held Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1995 at 2 p.m., at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Elgin. Pastor Judy Deweber officiated. Organist was Sara Strong, and soloist was Arden Greener. Interment was at Elgin Cemetery.

Gladyce was born in West Union, Sept. 30, 1914. Her parents were J. Floyd Lane and Oral Schwestka Elsner Lane. She grew up in West Union and graduated from West Union High School.

Gladyce and Herbert Ash were married at the Fayette County Fair, Aug. 25, 1933. They lived most of their married life in the Elgin area on a farm. Gladyce enjoyed the outdoors, especially her garden and flowers. She had a life–long fondness for animals, with special interest in her cats. She also enjoyed her many friends and neighbors and working with church and community groups, particularly Senior Citizens. Gladyce entered the nursing home in early Oct. 1986, and over her long stay there, she came to consider the staff and residents there as part of her family.

She died Saturday morning, Feb. 18, at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert, her parents, her sister, Ellen Northrop,and a brother, Horace Elsner.

Surviving are her sons, Lane and his wife Liz and Crayton and his wife Judy, both of Elgin; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers were: Virgil Torson, Randolph Reierson, Mark Ash, Louis Becker Jr., William Bennett, and Chris Ash.
