SUDDEN DEATH OF BERT ALLEN.

Bert Allen passed away suddenly at his home south of Elgin, Sunday morning, June 15, at about 3:30. He had been ill a very short time and his death came as a shock to the community as he had been around at his usual work just a few days prior to his death. He was born Sept. 29, 1881, and reached the age of fifty-nine years, nine months and sixteen days. He was born at Bay Center, New York, the son of Byron and Helen Allen. He came to Fayette county with his parents when a year old and has made his home here ever since.

On March 29, 1912, he was united in marriage to Mary Holzer of Elgin and they made their home on a farm south of town.

He affiliated himself with the Seventh Day Adventist church about fifteen years ago and has been a faithful member ever since, taking the Word of God as his guide, getting much comfort from reading passages from it, believing in the soon coming of our Savior and trying to point others to Him when he had the opportunity.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marshall Allen. Surviving to mourn his death are his widow and one sister, Mrs. Pyrl Shaffer, formerly of Duluth, Minn., three nephews, two nieces and a host of relatives and friends. May he rest in peace waiting for the call at the first resurrection.

Funeral services were held at the Elgin Baptist church Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Paul F. Zoschke, Elgin, and Rev. George Lauterbach of Sumner, conducting the services. Burial was made in the Elgin cemetery and casket bearers were. Earl Kiple, Robert Wilson, Archie and George Howard, Roy Leuchtenmacher and Wm. Kohls, Jr.

Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Louis Neuenschwander of Alhambro, Calif., Mrs. Henrietta Cunningham, Clarence Kohls, Mrs. Little and son Leo, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Cox, all of Volga City; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yates, Mrs. Helen Timmerman, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Timmerman and children, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kuhnes, Mr. and Mrs. Verle Bonjour, all of Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. George Holzer and Leon, of Oelwein. Elder and Mrs. George Lauterbach, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lauterbach of Sumner, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ishman, Mrs. S. Ishman, Mr. and Mrs. S. Klinger, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Brabham, Mrs. Hans Winkler, all of West Union; Mr. and Mrs. Gus Doher, Mary and Emma Meyer and Mabel Holzer of Elkader; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bennett of Clermont.

CARD OF THANKS.

We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to all our kind friends, relatives and neighbors who were so kind to us in many ways during our recent bereavement. All you did to help lighten our burden of sorrow was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
Mrs. Mary Allen.
Charles Holzer.
