Ruth Hackman

Ruth Hackman, 85, of Waucoma, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at the New Hampton Rehabilitation and Care Center.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 7, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in West Union, with Rev. Richard Grindstatt officiating.

Steve Story was the organist. Curt and Linda Gjere sang "A Closer Walk with Thee".

Casket bearers were William Brannon, Jerry Whitcher, Neal Struthers and Robert Robins.

Interment was at the Dunham-Grove Cemetery in Randalia. The Burnham-Wood Funeral Home of West Union handled arrangements.

Ruth Marie (Belknap) Hackman was born at Dundee May 6, 1914, the daughter of Charles and Eva Belknap.

She married George Austin in 1935. They lived in the West Union area and also in Texas for awhile. George died in 1958.

Ruth then married Ray Backman and they later divorced.

In 1961 Ruth married J. F. "Tommy" Tomlinson. They lived in Texas, Louisiana and California before retiring to Waucoma in 1978. Tommy died in November of 1982.

On June 14, 1991, Ruth married Anselm Hackman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waucoma. They enjoyed traveling and gardening.

After have a stroke 18 months age, Ruth entered the New Hampton Rehabilitation and Care Center.

She was an excellent seamstress and worked as a nurse's aide in area hospitals. Ruth was a member of the Valleyview Wesleyan Church of West Union.

Survivors include her husband, Anselm Hackman of Waucoma; 2 sons, Darrel (Sylvia) Austin of Fort Atkinson and David (Bonnie) Austin of Austin, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one brother, Lee Belknap of Seguin, Texas; 2 sisters-in-law, Viva Jean Belknap of Seguin, Texas, and Jane Belknap of Austin, Texas; and 3 step-daughters, Rose Mary (Urban) Kriener and Darlene (Robert) Robbins, of Waucoma, and Eileen (Bernard) Eichenberger of Alta Vista.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husbands, George Austin, Ray Backman and J. F. Tomlinson; one son, Gene Austin in 1983; her parents; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; 2 grandchildren and 2 step-grandsons.
