Alice Ann Reed was born in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, November 23, 1820. She was married to I.(saac) S. Coates in 1841. Seven children were born to them, six of whom preceeded their mother to the great beyond. L. W. Coates, Lathrop, California, alone remains to bear his mother to her final resting place.

In 1863 the family moved to Fayette County and three years later settled in the homestead north of Randalia. From this home she buried her husband and children and finally departed to her reward, December 2, 1907. The funeral services were held in Randalia M. E. Church Wednesday, conducted by Rev. Paul Peace. Interment was made in the Dunham Grove Cemetery.
