Vernon P. Anderson

Vernon Paul Anderson, son of Albert and Alma (Ostlie) Anderson, was born on Sept. 19, 1912, near Clermont, Iowa. He died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1993 at his home in Clermont. He was 80.

He was baptized by the Rev. Bursett in the East Clermont Lutheran Church and confirmed on May 22, 1927, in the West Clermont Lutheran Church by the Rev. Gunston. Vernon attended the rural school near his home.

On Aug. 25, 1939 he married Eleanor Lyngaas at the East Clermont Lutheran Church, the Rev. Ramsey officiating. To this union two daughters were born. They farmed on the family farm north of Clermont until Nov. 1, 1982, when they moved to their present home in Clermont.

Vernon was a favorite friend to all the children and always had time to play with them. He was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church, and had served on the Church Council. He also had served on the Clermont Cooperative Board for many years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Viola Swenson; a brother, Harvey, and a brother who died in infancy.

Surviving are his wife Eleanor; two daughters, Barbara and her husband, Merlin Chapman of Dike, Iowa and Marlene and her husband George Tullis of Lenexa, Kan.; five grandchildren, Scott Chapman and his wife Michelle, Sara (Chapman) Thorne and her husband Brett, Steve Chapman, Stacy Tullis, and David Tullis; one great granddaughter, Lauren Chapman; two sisters, Sophie Follett of Clermont and Lillian Peters of Litchfield, Minn.; and a brother, Alden Anderson of Nickerson, Kan.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 13, 1993 at the West Clermont Lutheran Church, the Rev. Donald Loots officiating. Burial was at God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont. Casket bearers were Henry Follett, Daryl Anderson, Lowell Lyngaas, Kerry Jacobson, Robert Swenson, Leon Griebenow, Alan Tinderholt and David Anderson.

Honorary casket bearers were Norman Gilbert, James Henderson, Mervin Reierson and Reuben Steffens.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Schutte Funeral Service of Postville and Clermont.
