Oelwein Daily Register, Thursday, August 3, 1933.

Fayette residents were stirred Sunday morning to learn that a murder had taken place within the community about 11:30 Saturday evening. Members of his household found Nels Louvering at the back door of his home at that time Saturday evening, following a shot heard by a number in the vicinity of the Louvering home. Mr. Louvering was shot once, the shot entering the body on the left side a little above the waist and leaving the body on the right side near the shoulder. A bullet hole in the garage door nearby signifies that the killer must have been on the ground quite near where Mr. Louvering passed by. Mrs. Louvering and her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Guyer, and family, who had come that day from the western part of the state and were visiting in the louvering home, had been at the filling station in the evening until about 10:30 when they went to the Louvering home in Westfield, the western section of Fayette. About 11:30 Mr. Louvering left his filling station and came in his car alone to his home, left his car about half way in the garage with the motor stopped. A shot was heard and when Mr. Louvering did not appear the members of the household discovered him crumbled at the back door. Dr. F. L. Baker was called, as was also Dr. W. E. Walsh, coroner and Sheriff H. J. Nehring. A. A. Robertson of Des Moines arrived about 6 o'clock Sunday morning and has been working on the case. Nels Louvering was about 55 years of age and was born in Denmark. When but a small child his mother passed away and when about 14 years of age his father came to America leaving him with an uncle. There he learned the work of tiling. Later he went to sea, and then at the age of 19 was taken into the Army. From that work he came to America and on to Wisconsin to join his father. He is thought to have been in this country some 30 years and near this vicinity some 20 years, having worked at Cedar Falls and Oelwein before coming to Fayette. After coming to Fayette he married Mrs. Amy Bailey Brimmer who survives him as do three stepchildren: Orville Brimmer of Oelwein; Mrs. Irene Guyer and Mrs. Iva Solomon of Indiana. For a time Mr. Louvering followed his occupation of tiling, then became interested in cars and for a time bought used cars and operated the sale of used parts. Later he added a filling station to his occupation and for some time has conducted a station and store at the corner of Main and Water Streets. No robbery was committed in connection with the shooting, as the money box with the days receipts were in his hand and scattered on the floor when his body was found. At this time no funeral arrangements have been made.
