Fayette County Leader, Thursday, 27 July 1944.

Frank Leslie Holtzman, son of Jesse and Helen (Penhollow) Holtzman, was born January 30, 1885, at Osterdock, Iowa, and passed away on July 23, 1944, at Fayette, Iowa, following an illness of a year.

When Frank was seven years of age the family moved to Fayette County, where he grew to manhood and spent the rest of his life.

He was united in marriage March 18, 1911, to Adelia Doland, daughter of Orvil and Viola Doland of Westfield Township. They lived their entire wedded life on what is known as the Holtzman farm between Fayette and Lima. To this union four children were born, Loyd, Erma, Melvin and Zenita.

On November 11, 1938, the family suffered a severe loss in the death of the wife and mother. After the death of his wife, Mr. Holtzman continued to live on the farm until failing health forced him to leave. On November 4, 1942, he was married to Jesse Campbell of Los Angeles, California. In April, 1943, they sold the farm and moved to Fayette.

Surviving are his wife, his sons, Loyd and Melvin, of Fayette, his daughters, Erma (Mrs. Donald VanSickle) of Kansas City, Kansas, and Zenita (Mrs. Willard Ash) of West Union; one sister, Mrs. Effie Patterson of Arlington; three brothers, Orman and Guy of Fayette, and Kenneth of Lamont; 10 grandchildren, numerous other relatives and many friends. Preceding him in death besides his wife, Adelia D. Holtzman, were two brothers, Charles and Wortha, and one sister, Ermina.

Mr. Holtzman was beloved by all who knew him – a kind father and a helpful neighbor. In addition to his strenuous farm laborers he was active through the years as Township trustee, director of the Fayette Mutual Creamery, and other community interests. His passing is deeply mourned by his many loved ones and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Lima church July 26, with Rev. A. L. Bray of Fayette officiating.

Casket bearers were Harold Whitley, Peter Fauser, Rufus Warner, Ernest Earle, William Earle and William Jones. Interment was in Grandview Cemetery at Fayette.

The funeral was largely attended, with loved ones and friends coming from nearby towns and communities in this part of the state.
