Fayette County Leader, Thursday, 4 April 1929.

Charles Paul was born in the state of New York, Sept. 26, 1866, and departed this life March 31st, at his home in Fayette, Iowa. He came west with his parents in 1878, settling on a farm in Smithfield township, Fayette county, Iowa. Here he grew to manhood and received his educational training in the public school nearby.

On October 27th, 1887, he was united in marriage to Anna Barnholt of Maynard, Iowa. To this union four children were born. They also settled on a farm in Smithfield township not far from the home and scenes of his childhood, following in the footsteps of his father in his chosen profession.

In his last illness he went twice to Rochester for medical examination and consultation with doctors at that place, also one trip to Des Moines but all to no avail. His devoted wife and family have done all possible to make him comfortable in his last days.

Mr. Paul was converted during meetings held near his home by Rev. Childs, a Christian minister, and was baptized in that faith and united wirh the Christian church at Arlington Sept. 12, 1910.

He was industrious, honest and upright in his dealings, a kind husband and father, truly a home-lover, and it is here where he will be missed the most.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and children, Everette, of near Maynard, Iowa; Russell of near Chicago, Ill.; Vernon on the home farm, and Mrs. Lyle Webster of Fayette: two sisters, Mrs. Bartlett Glover of West Union, Iowa, Mrs. Tom Masters of Oelwein, Iowa, and five brothers, Will, Albert and George, of Oelwein, Iowa, and Herb and Jesse of Smithfield, township; besides numerous other relatives and friends. His parents and two brothers, Eugene and Orange, have preceded him to the great beyond.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. D. M. Parker. Music was supplied by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hettler, with Owen Anderson at the organ. The I.O.O.F. had charge of burial service at the grave in Grandview cemetery.
