Elgin Echo, Thursday, August 6, 1903.
Ed. Ward, who resides West of town, committed suicide late Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. Ward was engaged in hauling milk for the Arlington creamery. On Wednesday he made his trip as usual. After delivering his milk at the creamery at Arlington, he went downtown and purchased a brand new revolver, and made his return trip as usual. On arriving home he placed the revolver back of his ear and fired, putting an end to his earthly career.
The cause of this rash deed is supposed to be some trouble that had arisen between himself and some girl that he loved, and feeling life was not worth living without her, he took the awful alternative of suicide. It is thought by those who are in a position to know, that he had not contemplated the deed long but acted quickly and successfully accomplished his purpose. – Strawberry Point Mall Press.
