Elgin Echo, Thursday, 2 July 1903.
From advices received last Thursday it was learned that Levi Lowers, formerly of this city, had been found dead in his room at Canyon City, Col. Up to this time little or no further particulars have been learned. It has been ascertained that his wife was notified and went to the city and after her arrival interment took place there. Lower's reputation in these parts was not of the savory character, he at one time having figured in a most brutal and uncalled for assault upon a man here for some fancied grievance, using as a weapon a large rock. His victim was brutally beaten and it was thought for a time he would die. At another time, when a resident of Elkader, he figured in a sensational shooting affray in that town, where he was shot several times by a saloon keeper named Fox, who was acquitted.
