Elgin Echo, Thursday, 22 January 1903.

Charles Ewalt, a young man 23 years of age, met with an accident in the Great Western shops at Oelwein Sunday, Jan. 11, which caused his death. He was assisting in putting a valve weighing about 600 pounds in position, the tackling slipped, he fell to the ground pinioned down by the valve which rested on his chest. He was removed to the Pattison hospital where his injuries were looked after but he passed away the same evening.
