John C. Robbins, a resident of Fayette for many years, but who had since the death of his wife made his home in Oelwein and Charles City, died in Charles City Wednesday, March 5, and was brought here for burial Saturday.
Mr. Robbins was born in Highland, Iowa, Nov. 24, 1853. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. K. Robbins, were early pioneers of Clayton county. Mr. Robbins was united in marriage to Hattie O. Klingman, Jan. 30, 1880. to this union were born four children: Francis L., of Oelwein; Mrs. Edna M. Gough, of Charles City; Emerald, of Chicago; and Edward J., a chaplain in the U.S. Navy, who is now enroute to the Phillippine Islands.
Mr. Robbins was one of a family of 11 children and is survived by one brother, James, of McGregor, and five sisters, Malva McCrae, of Canada; Ida Crane, of Elkader; Arvilla Stamp, of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Amy Layton, of West Union; and Mrs. Ed Klingman, of Elgin.
Mr. Robbins joined the Methodist church early in life, and was a loyal and faithful member, especially so in the building program four years ago, when he gave more days of service than any other townsman. He was an industrious man, kind-hearted, clean in his habits of life, and devoted to his family.
His final service was held Saturday, March 8, at 2:30, a male quartette singing and Dr. John D. Clinton in charge.- Fayette Leader.
