Elgin Echo, Thursday, 23 July 1908.

The funeral of Hon. Joseph M. Green, who died suddenly at his late home in Chamberlain, South Dakota, Wednesday night of last week, was held from the residence of Thomas L. Green at West Union on Saturday afternoon last, Rev. Swisher of the M. E. Church officiating.

Joseph Green was a cousin of Postmaster Green of West union and formerly lived for a number of years at Waucoma, Fayette County, where he gained much popularity. He was a delegate in attendance at the late Republican convention in Chicago and was in good health until a very short time previous to his death.

Joe Green, as he was familiarly known, was one of the big political figures of South Dakota. He was for years chairman of the Republican State Central committee. He was a member of the Republican national committee. He had been a representative in the territorial legislature, and later a state senator. He was a Mason of high degree and a veteran of the civil war. He was a colonel of a regiment of state troops. He was a successful businessman and a bachelor, born in Ireland 61 years ago.
