Mrs. Martha Johnson died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Baumgartner, Friday last, where she had gone for a visit and was taken sick. She was quite an old lady and had been suffering with a dislocated shoulder, which with other complications, caused her demise. Mrs. Johnson was born in Norway and emigrated to this country in the year 1849. She was united in marriage and in the year 1856 the family came to Iowa, settling on the present homestead in Clermont Township. Deceased was the mother of 12 children, eight of whom are dead. There are left to mourn besides her husband and four children, many relatives and friends. Appropriate services were held Monday and the remains were laid to rest in Clermont Lutheran Cemetery.
