Elgin Echo, Thursday, 21 May 1908. From the (West Union ?) Argo and Custer County Chief (Nebraska), both undated.

J. F. Sanderson Murdered.

Through the courtesy of J. B. Boyer of Comstock, Nebraska, the Argo is in receipt of a copy of the Custer County Chief containing an account of the murder of John E. Sanderson by James Carland. Mr. Sanderson, who was aged about 50 years was a resident of this community as a boy and young man. The killing resulted from a quarrel between the two men while both were intoxicated, Carland accusing Sanderson of alienating the affections of his wife. Sanderson received four bullet wounds at close range, dying instantly. The Chief says of Mr. Sanderson: " He has a wife and one child and has resided in Custer County for about 25 years. Sanderson has had a most unusual career in this County. He has been in fights, shooting scrapes, gun plays and escapades almost beyond enumeration, and yet he was not all bad. Like all men he had good qualities." – Argo.

Several weeks ago we made mention of Sanderson's death. At that time we could get no definite reports as to the facts of the case and only gave the rumor as it came to us. Mr. Sanderson is well known by many people here.
