Elgin Echo, Thursday, 27 January 1898. From the West Union Gazette, undated.

Florence Louise, youngest daughter of Judge and Mrs. A. N. Hobson, departed this life Friday afternoon at 3:55 PM, January 14, 1898, aged 9 years, five months and 11 days. The immediate cause of her death was congestion of the lungs. Florence was a bright, cheery, winsome child and a very great favorite. She was a delicate blossom. Some years ago she had an attack of la grippe from which she never recovered. Everything possible was done to restore her health, but it was apparent for some time that this beautiful flower was not long for this world.

The last rites were paid on Sunday afternoon the 16th, Rev. John Gammons officiating and Rev. T. P. Griffith assisting. A choir composed of Mrs. Woodard, Mrs. Stam, Mr. Bloodgood and Mr. Neff, with Miss Newcomb at the piano, rendered several beautiful selections. The casket was beautifully decorated with flowers. The cover was turned back and little Florence reposed on the softest of down surrounded by flowers, looking as sweet as an angel and seemed only to be in a peaceful sleep.

A large number of friends were present to mingle their tears with Mr. and Mrs. Hobson's in their hour of sorrow.
