Mrs. Anna Schaer was born on January 23, 1845, in Lyk, Canton Berne, Switzerland, and died at the home of her son Jacob, near Elgin, on May 2, reaching the age of 73 years, three months and nine days.

She was married to Jacob Schaer in 1870 and there were born to them six children: John, the oldest, died about two years ago; Jacob, of Elgin, where she had her home for the last years; Fritz and Alexander of South Dakota; Mrs. Thonen of Whiting, Kansas, and Mrs. Buser of Clermont. In 1891 her husband passed into the great beyond. She came to America in 1898.

She was a dear mother and the children feel the loss of her deeply. In 1909 she united with the German Baptist church of Elgin and was a faithful member and will be missed by all of the church members, but our loss is her gain. She leaves five children and fourteen grandchildren to mourn her death, with the blessed hope of meeting her again.

The funeral services, which were conducted in the church Sunday afternoon by Rev. Wedel, were largely attended and the remains laid to rest in the Elgin cemetery.

All the children were here to attend the funeral of their mother.
