Elgin Echo, Thur., 12 April 1917. (condensed).

William Ezra Howard was born Oct. 14, 1849, in Mercer Co., Pennsylvania, and died at his home in Elgin on Apr. 9, 1917.

At the age of 4 he came with his parents to Fayette Co., Iowa, where he lived until 1872, when he went to Knox Co., Nebraska, where he filed on a homestead and made that place his home for 17 years. There he married Emily Burgess on Apr. 15, 1877. He returned to Elgin in 1889, where he has since made his home.

Deceased leaves to mourn his death, his wife, 5 sons and 2 daughters. The children are: John, Will, Harvey, George and Frank Howard, Mrs. Frank Boyle and Mrs. Geo. Stansberry, all of whom have made this vicinity their home. There are 23 grandchildren, besides 2 brothers and 2 sisters; Thomas and Enos Howard of Elgin, Mrs. Charlie Lyons of Winnetoon, Nebraska, and Mrs. Millara Stansberry of Sioux City, Iowa.

Although not affiliated with any church he was a true type of a real christian and helped much in the up-building of Illyria and St Paul's churches. His life was filled with kind acts and many a needy and unfortunate brother has been helped by his kindness and generosity. He will be truly missed by those who knew him.

Funeral services were held from Illyria church and interment was made in the nearby cemetery.
