Elgin Echo, Thur., 23 July 1909.

Emil O. Engbretson, the youngest child and only son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Engbretson, was born in Elgin November 11, 1883, and died at Colorado Springs, Colorado, July 11, 1909, at the age of 25 years and 8 months.

All that loving hands and medical skill could do was done and twice during his sickness he had been out west in hopes that the bracing mountain air might restore health.

Thirteen years ago he, with his parents, moved to Minnesota and settled on a farm near Fosston, returning to Elgin last May to make their home here.

Emil received his early education in the Elgin public school later entering the high school at Fosston, and taking a business course at Concordia College. On leaving school he was a rural mail carrier for over a year. Three years ago he opened a grocery store in West Elgin but did not continue in business long on account of his health.

He was a young man of exemplary habits and good business principles and by his sunny disposition won a large circle of friends who mourn his death.

The passing over was peaceful and happy for he was fully resigned to God's will, having been a patient sufferer for the last three years.

Emil is survived by his parents and two sisters, Mrs. A. Nelson of Fosston Minn., and Mrs. G. Schori of Elgin, one sister having preceded him to the better world.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. V. Porter at the home Thursday afternoon and an appropriate sermon preached from the text "His sun has gone down while it is yet day". The remains were laid to rest in the Elgin cemetery buried in flowers that had been contributed by friends and neighbors.
