Thomas H. Smith was born at Saratoga, N.Y., Oct. 5, 1818. At the age of eleven years he moved with his parents to the western part of that state. After the lapse of four years they again moved westward to the Western Reserve near Cleveland, Ohio. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Sine Jan. 1, 1849. In 1851 he came to Fayette county where he resided almost continuously until the fall of 1905 when he went to Minneapolis, Minn., to reside with his daughter, where he remained until his death.

Thomas H. Smith was father of Carl Smith, of this township, and was known by many in Fayette county, who deeply regret his passing.
