Lois Kathryn Shaffer was born at Elgin, Iowa, Aug. 14, 1904, and died at Alma, Nebraska, June 19, 1909, at five o'clock in the morning. The cause of death was croup and laryngitis and her illness was only of three days duration. Although two doctors were with her all night and all that human hands could do was done, death would not be stayed.

The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon amidst a profusion of beautiful flowers sent by the lodges, churches and fire company. She was buried fully dressed with her doll in her arms. Tuesday when she was taken sick she said she would never get over her cold, and this remark of hers was fulfilled.
