Howard L. Smith, 95, of Fairbank, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, May 21, 2013, at Parkview Assisted Living Center in Fairbank, Iowa.

Howard was born on May 22, 1917 in Fort Dodge, IA, the son of Seneca and Marian (Packard) Smith. He graduated high school in Fort Dodge, and was known around town as one of the “notorious” Smith twins with his brother Herbert. On October 17, 1941 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Lalor in Fort Dodge. He worked for many years at the Fort Dodge Messenger as the General Manager of Commercial Printing. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Sebastian Florida; this is when he became an accomplished model ship builder, and has models on display at the Mel Fisher Treasure Museum in Sebastian, FL and the Ships of the Sea Museum in Savannah, GA.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie, a son Barry (Cheryl) Smith of Stillwater, MN, a daughter Dyette (Ob) Molstre of Fairbank, IA. Four Grandchildren and ten Great Grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Dighton, and Herbert Smith, and a granddaughter Shawna Molstre.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
