Elgin Echo, Thursday, 01 November 1906.
Wm. Mitchell, a fireman on the Great Western railroad, was killed in a wreck near Baxter last week when the engine went through a bridge. He was buried beneath the monster engine and scalded to death by escaping steam. Wm. Mitchell was well known to many of our citizens, he having at one time been in the employ of T. J. Capper, and the friends of former days will be sorry to learn of his death. The remains were brought to Oelwein where interment was made.
