Elgin Echo, Thursday, 27 March 1902.

Last Sunday morning at four o'clock occurred the death of Jake Marte at his home two miles southwest of Elgin. Death was caused by injuries which he received while operating a steam saw.

Mr. Marte was fifty-two years of age and was an old and respected citizen of Fayette county. He is survived by a wife and daughter, three brothers and two sisters, who have the sympathy of all in their deep sorrow.

The funeral was held in the Dunkard church Wednesday afternoon and interment made in that cemetery.
