COMMITTED SUICIDE.

James Cowle, an early settler of West Union, aged 72 years, committed suicide there on Saturday night. Since the death of his wife a few years ago he has been very lonely and dejected. He had some articles stored in a room under the shoe store in that town. About 8 o'clock p.m. Will Colburn, whose shop was adjoining the room entered same and saw Cowle lying on a sofa apparently asleep, thinking nothing of it he did not disturb him. Subsequently Ebbi? Hoyt, with whom Coyle was boarding, came to Colburn's to be shaved and mentioned to Colburn that Cowle had not been home to supper. They then went into the room and found Cowle limp and insensible. Dr. Robinson was called and pronounced him poisoned by morphine and past resuscitation or relief. He died Sunday morning about 5 o'clock. Cowle had recently became engaged to marry a Miss Warner of West Union and made a will giving her his property some time last summer. A few days before his death he contracted and paid for a monument to be placed over his deceased wife's grave. His funeral took place at the Universalist church in West Union Tuesday last at 2 p.m.
