Gene Boese

Gene Boese, 69, of Elgin, Iowa, formerly of Postville, Iowa died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa.

He was born on October 12, 1943 to William and Mary (Frimmer) Boese in Elkader, Iowa. Gene was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. He attended Postville Schools through the tenth grade.

Gene was united in marriage with Shirley Holden in October of 1986. He worked at area farms as a laborer. He also worked at the Turkey Plant and for the City of Postville. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, spending time with friends and watching western movies. Gene was active in Full Circle in West Union and TASC in Waukon.

Gene is survived by his brothers, Merlin Boese of Waukon and Charles (Judy) Boese of Decorah; his children, Sandy (Danny) Blazinski-Prince of Oklahoma, Kellie (Brian) Hermen of Iowa, Lee (Kris) Holden of Texas and Malvin (fiancée, Birdie) Holden of Missouri; 10 grandchildren, Nicole, John, David, Meranda, Alisha, Noah, Krys, Desire, Shelby and Malici; 3 great-grandchildren, Cason, Alice and Caydence and several nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley on March 10, 2007; his parents; his three brothers, Keith, Allen and Kenneth Boese; his two sisters, Florence Boese and Marion Reierson and a great-granddaughter, Riley Larson.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home in Elgin, Iowa and one hour before services at the funeral home on Friday.

Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home, Elgin, Iowa with Rev. Steve Brackett as the Officiant.

Inurnment to follow at the Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
