Postville Herald, Thur., 12 July 1923.
Fayette had a tragedy Tuesday when Lavon Kelley, a fourteen-year-old school girl, committed suicide by blowing her head off with a shotgun. The father and the girl's step-mother were away during the morning and the girl was left at home. When the father returned to put the car away he found the girl peeling potatoes for the noonday meal. He went to his work, but when he returned at noon the meal was not prepared and he could not find his daughter. On going up stairs he found her lying on the floor in a pool of blood and the shotgun by her side. Coroner Smittle was summoned from Waucoma and an inquest held. No cause for the rash act could be ascribed as the girl was in good health and spirits.
