OELWEIN-Donald F. Baumgartner, 81, of Oelwein, died Sunday, March 16, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo after a short illness.

He was born Nov 8, 1921, in Oelwein, son of Fred C. and Violet Samp Baumgartner. He married Doris Beverly Moore on Dec 5, 1942, in Jefferson City, MO. She died Oct 6, 1968. He later married Dixie Quinn on Sept 15, 1974, in Oelwein.

Mr. Baumgartner graduated from Oelwein High School in 1939, then worked at A & P Foods in Waterloo and Cedar Rapids. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, then attended and graduated from Cook's Secretarial School, Oelwein, where he later taught. He then worked for the Chicago Great Western Railroad and also at Young's Plumbing & Heating, Oelwein. He went to work at First National Bank, Oelwein, in 1949, and retired in 1983 as senior vice president and assistant trust officer. After retiring he worked until the present for Michael Aldrich. He was past vice commander of Ross Reid American Legion Post 9 of Oelwein.

Survivors include: his wife; a son, Craig (Renee) of Oelwein; a granddaughter, and a brother, Wayne of Oelwein.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, both in Oelwein. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Ross Reid American Legion Post No. 9 of Oelwein. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church. There will be a 7 p.m. Masonic service by Hebron Masonic Lodge 374 AF&AM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
